And he took Peter, James and John with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

And not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance;

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with holiness and godly sincerity, not in worldly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials,
