؟ לַעֲבָדִ֑ים

לָ֣מָּה

יְבַקֵּ֥שׁ

this [thing] ؟

אֲדֹנִ֔י

And turned ､

and saw

– הַמַּלְאָ֔ךְ

ham·mal·’āḵ,

the angel –

וְאַרְבַּ֧עַת

wə·’ar·ba·‘aṯ

and four

בָּנָ֛יו

bā·nāw

עִמּ֖וֹ

‘im·mōw

[who were] with him

. מִֽתְחַבְּאִ֑ים

miṯ·ḥab·bə·’îm;

hid themselves .

וְאָרְנָ֖ן

wə·’ā·rə·nān

דָּ֥שׁ

continued threshing

. חִטִּֽים׃

ḥiṭ·ṭîm.

וַיָּבֹ֥א

way·yā·ḇō

And came

דָוִ֖יד

עַד־

to

､ אָרְנָ֑ן

וַיַּבֵּ֤ט

way·yab·bêṭ

אָרְנָן֙

וַיַּ֣רְא

and saw

וַיֵּצֵא֙

and he went out

מִן־

min-

､ הַגֹּ֔רֶן

hag·gō·ren,

the threshing floor ､

וַיִּשְׁתַּ֧חוּ

way·yiš·ta·ḥū

לְדָוִ֛יד

אַפַּ֖יִם

’ap·pa·yim

with [his] face

. אָֽרְצָה׃

’ā·rə·ṣāh.

to the ground .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

to

､ אָרְנָ֗ן

תְּנָה־

לִּי֙

מְק֣וֹם

､ הַגֹּ֔רֶן

of [this] threshing floor ､

וְאֶבְנֶה־

wə·’eḇ·neh-

that I may build

בּ֥וֹ

on it

מִזְבֵּ֖חַ

miz·bê·aḥ

– לַיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh –

– בְּכֶ֤סֶף

bə·ḵe·sep̄

at the price –

מָלֵא֙

mā·lê

תְּנֵ֣הוּ

tə·nê·hū

You shall grant it

לִ֔י

lî,

to me

וְתֵעָצַ֥ר

wə·ṯê·‘ā·ṣar

that may be withdrawn

הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה

ham·mag·gê·p̄āh

מֵעַ֥ל

mê·‘al

. הָעָֽם׃

the people .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

אָרְנָ֤ן

qaḥ-

take [it]

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

וְיַ֛עַשׂ

wə·ya·‘aś

and let do

אֲדֹנִ֥י

הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

הַטּ֣וֹב

haṭ·ṭō·wḇ

. בְּעֵינָ֑יו

bə·‘ê·nāw;

､ רְאֵה֩

Look ､

נָתַ֨תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

I [also] give [you]

הַבָּקָ֜ר

hab·bā·qār

the oxen

､ לָֽעֹל֗וֹת

lā·‘ō·lō·wṯ,

for burnt offerings ､

וְהַמּוֹרִגִּ֧ים

wə·ham·mō·w·rig·gîm

and the threshing implements

､ לָעֵצִ֛ים

lā·‘ê·ṣîm

וְהַחִטִּ֥ים

wə·ha·ḥiṭ·ṭîm

and the wheat

– לַמִּנְחָ֖ה

lam·min·ḥāh

for the grain offering –

הַכֹּ֥ל

hak·kōl

. נָתָֽתִּי׃

nā·ṯāt·tî.

I give [it] .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

דָּוִיד֙

､ לְאָרְנָ֔ן

lə·’ā·rə·nān,

to Ornan ､

– לֹ֕א

כִּֽי־

but

קָנֹ֥ה

I will buy [it]

– בְּכֶ֣סֶף

for the price –

burnt offerings

､ וּשְׁלָמִ֑ים

ū·šə·lā·mîm;

and peace offerings ､

וַיִּקְרָא֙

way·yiq·rā

אֶל־

’el-

on

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וַיַּֽעֲנֵ֤הוּ

way·ya·‘ă·nê·hū

and He answered him

בָאֵשׁ֙

ḇā·’êš

מִן־

min-

הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

עַ֖ל

‘al

on

מִזְבַּ֥ח

miz·baḥ

. הָעֹלָֽה׃

hā·‘ō·lāh.

of burnt offering .

the angel –

וַיָּ֥שֶׁב

and he returned

חַרְבּ֖וֹ

אֶל־

to

. נְדָנָֽהּ׃

nə·ḏā·nāh.

בָּעֵ֣ת

bā·‘êṯ

הַהִ֔יא

ha·hî,

בִּרְא֤וֹת

bir·’ō·wṯ

דָּוִיד֙

dā·wîḏ

כִּי־

kî-

עָנָ֣הוּ

‘ā·nā·hū

had answered him

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

בְּגֹ֖רֶן

bə·ḡō·ren

on the threshing floor

אָרְנָ֣ן

’ā·rə·nān

､ הַיְבוּסִ֑י

hay·ḇū·sî;

the Jebusite ､

וַיִּזְבַּ֖ח

way·yiz·baḥ

and he sacrificed

וּמִשְׁכַּ֣ן

For the tabernacle

､ יְ֠הוָה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

אֲשֶׁר־

עָשָׂ֨ה

מֹשֶׁ֧ה

mō·šeh

､ בַמִּדְבָּ֛ר

ḇam·miḏ·bār

in the wilderness ､

וּמִזְבַּ֥ח

ū·miz·baḥ

and the altar

､ הָעוֹלָ֖ה

hā·‘ō·w·lāh

of the burnt offering [were] ､

בָּעֵ֣ת

bā·‘êṯ

הַהִ֑יא

ha·hî;

בַּבָּמָ֖ה

bab·bā·māh

at the high place

. בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃

bə·ḡiḇ·‘ō·wn.

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

But not

יָכֹ֥ל

yā·ḵōl

דָּוִ֛יד

dā·wîḏ

לָלֶ֥כֶת

lā·le·ḵeṯ

לְפָנָ֖יו

לִדְרֹ֣שׁ
