וַיַּ֥עַשׂ

And he did [what was]

הַיָּשָׁ֖ר

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

in the sight

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh ､

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ

way·yê·leḵ,

בְּדַרְכֵי֙

bə·ḏar·ḵê

in the ways

דָּוִ֣יד

dā·wîḏ

､ אָבִ֔יו

’ā·ḇîw,

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and [not]

סָ֖ר

sār

[he] did turn aside

､ יָמִ֥ין

yā·mîn

to the right hand ､

. וּשְׂמֹֽאול׃

ū·śə·mō·wl.

or to the left .

Josiah Destroys Idolatry

לְטַהֵ֔ר

יְהוּדָה֙

וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם

מִן־

､ הַבָּמוֹת֙

hab·bā·mō·wṯ

the high places ､

､ וְהָ֣אֲשֵׁרִ֔ים

wə·hā·’ă·šê·rîm,

and the wooden images ､

､ וְהַפְּסִלִ֖ים

wə·hap·pə·si·lîm

and the carved images ､

. וְהַמַּסֵּכֽוֹת׃

wə·ham·mas·sê·ḵō·wṯ.

and the molded images .

וַיְנַתְּצ֣וּ

way·nat·tə·ṣū

And they broke down

– לְפָנָ֗יו

lə·p̄ā·nāw,

in his presence –

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

-

מִזְבְּח֣וֹת

miz·bə·ḥō·wṯ

הַבְּעָלִ֔ים

hab·bə·‘ā·lîm,

of the Baals

､ וְהַֽחַמָּנִ֛ים

wə·ha·ḥam·mā·nîm

and the incense altars ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

לְמַ֥עְלָה

lə·ma‘·lāh

מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם

mê·‘ă·lê·hem

– גִּדֵּ֑עַ

gid·dê·a‘;

he cut down –

､ וְ֠הָאֲשֵׁרִים

wə·hā·’ă·šê·rîm

and the wooden images ､

､ וְהַפְּסִלִ֤ים

wə·hap·pə·si·lîm

and the carved images ､

､ וְהַמַּסֵּכוֹת֙

wə·ham·mas·sê·ḵō·wṯ

and the molded images ､

､ שִׁבַּ֣ר

šib·bar

he broke in pieces ､

וְהֵדַ֔ק

wə·hê·ḏaq,

and made dust of them

וַיִּזְרֹק֙

way·yiz·rōq

and scattered [it]

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

on

הַקְּבָרִ֔ים

haq·qə·ḇā·rîm,

הַזֹּבְחִ֖ים

haz·zō·ḇə·ḥîm

of those who had sacrificed

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

to them .

וְעַצְמוֹת֙

wə·‘aṣ·mō·wṯ

And the bones

כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים

kō·hă·nîm,

of the priests

שָׂרַ֖ף

śā·rap̄

עַל־

‘al-

on

[מזבחותים]

miz·bə·ḥō·w·ṯāym

-

､ (מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֑ם)

miz·bə·ḥō·w·ṯām;

their altars ､

וַיְטַהֵ֥ר

way·ṭa·hêr

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יְהוּדָ֖ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

. יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

yə·rū·šā·lim.

וּבְעָרֵ֨י

ū·ḇə·‘ā·rê

And [so he did] in the cities

､ מְנַשֶּׁ֧ה

mə·naš·šeh

of Manasseh ､

､ וְאֶפְרַ֛יִם

wə·’ep̄·ra·yim

and Ephraim ､

､ וְשִׁמְע֖וֹן

wə·šim·‘ō·wn

and Simeon ､

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and as far as

､ נַפְתָּלִ֑י

nap̄·tā·lî;

[בהר]

bā·har

with their mattocks

[בתיהם]

bāt·tê·hem

-

(בְּחַרְבֹתֵיהֶ֖ם)

bə·ḥar·ḇō·ṯê·hem

with axes

. סָבִֽיב׃

וַיְנַתֵּ֣ץ

way·nat·têṣ

And when he had broken down

אֶת־

הַֽמִּזְבְּח֗וֹת

ham·miz·bə·ḥō·wṯ,

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ הָאֲשֵׁרִ֤ים

hā·’ă·šê·rîm

the wooden images ､

וְהַפְּסִלִים֙

wə·hap·pə·si·lîm

and the carved images

כִּתַּ֣ת

kit·taṯ

､ לְהֵדַ֔ק

lə·hê·ḏaq,

into powder ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

הַֽחַמָּנִ֥ים

ha·ḥam·mā·nîm

the incense altars

גִּדַּ֖ע

gid·da‘

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the land

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

of Israel ､

וַיָּ֖שָׁב

way·yā·šāḇ

and he returned

. לִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

and Benjamin –

and [which] they had brought back

And they put [it]

לִקְנוֹת֙

to buy

､ אַבְנֵ֣י

מַחְצֵ֔ב

maḥ·ṣêḇ,

וְעֵצִ֖ים

wə·‘ê·ṣîm

､ לַֽמְחַבְּר֑וֹת

lam·ḥab·bə·rō·wṯ;

וּלְקָרוֹת֙

ū·lə·qā·rō·wṯ

and to floor

הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים

and Obadiah ､

the Levites ､

– מְרָרִ֔י

､ הַקְּהָתִ֖ים

of the Kohathites ､

לְנַצֵּ֑חַ

and [Others of] the Levites ､

כָּל־

of whom were skillful

with instruments

וְעַ֣ל

And [were] over

､ הַסַּבָּלִ֗ים

the burden bearers ､

וּֽמְנַצְּחִים֙

ū·mə·naṣ·ṣə·ḥîm

and [were] overseers

לְכֹל֙

lə·ḵōl

of all

עֹשֵׂ֣ה

‘ō·śêh

מְלָאכָ֔ה

mə·lā·ḵāh,

לַעֲבוֹדָ֖ה

la·‘ă·ḇō·w·ḏāh

in

– וַעֲבוֹדָ֑ה

wa·‘ă·ḇō·w·ḏāh;

and [any kind] of service –

וּמֵֽהַלְוִיִּ֔ם

ū·mê·hal·wî·yim,

and of the Levites

､ סוֹפְרִ֥ים

[some were] scribes ､

､ וְשֹׁטְרִ֖ים

wə·šō·ṭə·rîm

and officers ､

בַּמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה

in the Second Quarter

they have forsaken Me

[ויקטירו]

and burned incense

､ לֵֽאלֹהִ֣ים

lê·lō·hîm

to gods ､

אֲחֵרִ֔ים

’ă·ḥê·rîm,

לְמַ֙עַן֙

lə·ma·‘an

הַכְעִיסֵ֔נִי

haḵ·‘î·sê·nî,

they might provoke Me to anger

בְּכֹ֖ל

bə·ḵōl

with all

מַעֲשֵׂ֣י

ma·‘ă·śê

– יְדֵיהֶ֑ם

yə·ḏê·hem;

of their hands –

וְתִתַּ֧ךְ

wə·ṯit·taḵ

therefore will be poured out

חֲמָתִ֛י

､ בַּמָּק֥וֹם

on place ､

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

וְלֹ֥א
