אֲבָנִ֖ים

– כָּרִאשֹׁנִ֑ים

kā·ri·šō·nîm;

like the first [ones] –

וְכָתַבְתִּי֙

wə·ḵā·ṯaḇ·tî

and I will write

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַלֻּחֹ֔ת

hal·lu·ḥōṯ,

[these] tablets

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדְּבָרִ֔ים

had·də·ḇā·rîm,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

הָי֛וּ

hā·yū

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַלֻּחֹ֥ת

hal·lu·ḥōṯ

､ הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים

hā·ri·šō·nîm

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. שִׁבַּֽרְתָּ׃

šib·bar·tā.

וֶהְיֵ֥ה

weh·yêh

So be

נָכ֖וֹן

nā·ḵō·wn

､ לַבֹּ֑קֶר

lab·bō·qer;

in the morning ､

וְעָלִ֤יתָ

wə·‘ā·lî·ṯā

and come up

בַבֹּ֙קֶר֙

ḇab·bō·qer

in the morning

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַ֣ר

har

､ סִינַ֔י

sî·nay,

וְנִצַּבְתָּ֥

wə·niṣ·ṣaḇ·tā

and present yourself

לִ֛י

to Me

וְגַם־

אִ֥ישׁ

בְּכָל־

– הָהָ֑ר

hā·hār;

the mountain –

גַּם־

gam-

הַצֹּ֤אן

haṣ·ṣōn

וְהַבָּקָר֙

wə·hab·bā·qār

אַל־

’al-

יִרְע֔וּ

yir·‘ū,

אֶל־

’el-

מ֖וּל

mūl

the front of

הָהָ֥ר

hā·hār

. הַהֽוּא׃

ha·hū.

וַיִּפְסֹ֡ל

So he cut

שְׁנֵֽי־

לֻחֹ֨ת

אֲבָנִ֜ים

– כָּרִאשֹׁנִ֗ים

like the first [ones] –

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם

､ בַבֹּ֙קֶר֙

in the morning ､

וַיַּ֙עַל֙

way·ya·‘al

and went up

אֶל־

’el-

הַ֣ר

sî·nay,

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

– אֹת֑וֹ

’ō·ṯōw;

וַיִּקַּ֣ח

and he took

בְּיָד֔וֹ

שְׁנֵ֖י

לֻחֹ֥ת

וַיֵּ֤רֶד

､ וֶאֱמֶֽת ׀‪‬

､ לָאֲלָפִ֔ים

lā·’ă·lā·p̄îm,

for thousands ､

נֹשֵׂ֥א

עָוֺ֛ן

וָפֶ֖שַׁע

wā·p̄e·ša‘

and transgression

､ וְחַטָּאָ֑ה

wə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·’āh;

and sin ､

וְנַקֵּה֙

wə·naq·qêh

and clearing [the guilty]

the fourth [generation] .

וַיְמַהֵ֖ר

way·ma·hêr

､ מֹשֶׁ֑ה

mō·šeh;

וַיִּקֹּ֥ד

way·yiq·qōḏ

and bowed his head

､ אַ֖רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

toward the earth ､

. וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ׃

way·yiš·tā·ḥū.

and worshiped .

､ וַיֹּ֡אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said ､

אִם־

מָצָ֨אתִי

חֵ֤ן

､ בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā

in Your sight ､

､ אֲדֹנָ֔י

Lord ､

יֵֽלֶךְ־

yê·leḵ-

let go

､ נָ֥א

nā

I pray ､

､ אֲדֹנָ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

my Lord ､

– בְּקִרְבֵּ֑נוּ

bə·qir·bê·nū;

among us –

כִּ֤י

kî

עַם־

‘am-

קְשֵׁה־

qə·šêh-

עֹ֙רֶף֙

‘ō·rep̄

､ ה֔וּא

hū,

[we] are ､

וְסָלַחְתָּ֛

wə·sā·laḥ·tā

לַעֲוֺנֵ֥נוּ

la·‘ă·wō·nê·nū

､ וּלְחַטָּאתֵ֖נוּ

ū·lə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯê·nū

and our sin ､

. וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ׃

ū·nə·ḥal·tā·nū.

and take us as Your inheritance .

The Lord Renews the Covenant

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

And He said ､

their [wooden] images

in plowing time

וּבַקָּצִ֖יר

and in harvest

you shall rest .

וְחַ֤ג

And the Feast

､ שָׁבֻעֹת֙

And He wrote

עַל־

הַלֻּחֹ֗ת

hal·lu·ḥōṯ,

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

-

דִּבְרֵ֣י

diḇ·rê

､ הַבְּרִ֔ית

hab·bə·rîṯ,

of the covenant ､

עֲשֶׂ֖רֶת

‘ă·śe·reṯ

. הַדְּבָרִֽים׃

had·də·ḇā·rîm.

the Commandments .

The Radiant Face of Moses

､ וַיְהִ֗י

way·hî,

And it was so ､

בְּרֶ֤דֶת

bə·re·ḏeṯ

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

מֵהַ֣ר

mê·har

､ סִינַ֔י

sî·nay,

וּשְׁנֵ֨י

ū·šə·nê

and two

לֻחֹ֤ת

lu·ḥōṯ

הָֽעֵדֻת֙

hā·‘ê·ḏuṯ

of the Testimony [were]

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

בְּרִדְתּ֖וֹ

bə·riḏ·tōw

when he came down

מִן־

min-

､ הָהָ֑ר

hā·hār;

the mountain ､

וּמֹשֶׁ֣ה

ū·mō·šeh

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יָדַ֗ע

yā·ḏa‘,

כִּ֥י

kî

קָרַ֛ן

qā·ran

ע֥וֹר

‘ō·wr

the skin

､ פָּנָ֖יו

pā·nāw

of his face ､

בְּדַבְּר֥וֹ

bə·ḏab·bə·rōw

while he talked

. אִתּֽוֹ׃

’it·tōw.

with Him .

וַיַּ֨רְא

way·yar

אַהֲרֹ֜ן

’a·hă·rōn

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בְּנֵ֤י

bə·nê

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

and behold ､

קָרַ֖ן

qā·ran

ע֣וֹר

‘ō·wr

the skin

､ פָּנָ֑יו

pā·nāw;

of his face ､

וַיִּֽירְא֖וּ

way·yî·rə·’ū

and they were afraid

מִגֶּ֥שֶׁת

mig·ge·šeṯ

. אֵלָֽיו׃

’ê·lāw.

וַיִּקְרָ֤א

way·yiq·rā

אֲלֵהֶם֙

’ă·lê·hem

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

וַיָּשֻׁ֧בוּ

way·yā·šu·ḇū

אֵלָ֛יו

’ê·lāw

to him

אַהֲרֹ֥ן

’a·hă·rōn

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

הַנְּשִׂאִ֖ים

han·nə·śi·’îm

– בָּעֵדָ֑ה

bā·‘ê·ḏāh;

of the congregation –

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר

way·ḏab·bêr

מֹשֶׁ֖ה

mō·šeh

. אֲלֵהֶֽם׃

’ă·lê·hem.

with them .

וְאַחֲרֵי־

wə·’a·ḥă·rê-

And

כֵ֥ן

ḵên

נִגְּשׁ֖וּ

nig·gə·šū

כָּל־

kāl-

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

of Israel –

וַיְצַוֵּ֕ם

way·ṣaw·wêm

and he gave them as commandments

אֵת֩

’êṯ

-

כָּל־

kāl-

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

דִּבֶּ֧ר

dib·ber

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

אִתּ֖וֹ

’it·tōw

with him

בְּהַ֥ר

bə·har

. סִינָֽי׃

sî·nāy.

וַיְכַ֣ל

way·ḵal

And when had finished

מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

מִדַּבֵּ֖ר

mid·dab·bêr

､ אִתָּ֑ם

’it·tām;

with them ､

וַיִּתֵּ֥ן

way·yit·tên

and he put

עַל־

‘al-

on

פָּנָ֖יו

pā·nāw

. מַסְוֶֽה׃

mas·weh.

a veil .

וּבְבֹ֨א

ū·ḇə·ḇō

But whenever went in

מֹשֶׁ֜ה

mō·šeh

לִפְנֵ֤י

lip̄·nê

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

לְדַבֵּ֣ר

lə·ḏab·bêr

､ אִתּ֔וֹ

’it·tōw,

with Him ､

יָסִ֥יר

yā·sîr

he would take off

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַמַּסְוֶ֖ה

ham·mas·weh

the veil

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. צֵאת֑וֹ

ṣê·ṯōw;

､ וְיָצָ֗א

wə·yā·ṣā,

And he would come out ､

וְדִבֶּר֙

wə·ḏib·ber

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. יְצֻוֶּֽה׃

yə·ṣuw·weh.

he had been commanded .

וְרָא֤וּ

wə·rā·’ū

And whenever saw

בְנֵֽי־

ḇə·nê-

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

the face

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

of Moses ､

כִּ֣י

kî

. קָרַ֔ן

qā·ran,

ע֖וֹר

‘ō·wr

The skin

– מֹשֶׁ֑ה

mō·šeh;

וְהֵשִׁ֨יב

wə·hê·šîḇ

מֹשֶׁ֤ה

הַמַּסְוֶה֙

the veil
