In times of prosperity be joyful, but in times of adversity consider this: God has made one as well as the other, so that no one can discover what the future holds.
But King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds he received from the Syrians when he fought against King Hazael of Syria. Jehu told his supporters, "If you really want me to be king, then don't let anyone escape from the city to go and warn Jezreel."
Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.
For indeed, what had been glorious now has no glory because of the tremendously greater glory of what replaced it.
They said, "Cornelius the centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear a message from you."
So the exiles proceeded accordingly. Ezra the priest separated out by name men who were leaders in their family groups. They sat down to consider this matter on the first day of the tenth month,
At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful to God. For three months he was brought up in his father's house,
So put on sackcloth! Mourn and wail, saying, 'The fierce anger of the Lord has not turned away from us!'"
When they had finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
They came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting there, clothed and in his right mind -- the one who had the "Legion" -- and they were afraid.
Listen attentively, my God, and hear! Open your eyes and look on our desolated ruins and the city called by your name. For it is not because of our own righteous deeds that we are praying to you, but because your compassion is abundant.

What follows is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priestly scribe. Ezra was a scribe in matters pertaining to the commandments of the Lord and his statutes over Israel:
For in this earthly house we groan, because we desire to put on our heavenly dwelling,
That entire generation passed away; a new generation grew up that had not personally experienced the Lord's presence or seen what he had done for Israel.
fed you in the desert with manna (which your ancestors had never before known) so that he might by humbling you test you and eventually bring good to you.
Each of them quickly took off his cloak and they spread them out at Jehu's feet on the steps. The trumpet was blown and they shouted, "Jehu is king!"
They threw away the foreign gods they owned and worshiped the Lord. Finally the Lord grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much.
The Israelites did evil in the Lord's sight. They forgot the Lord their God and worshiped the Baals and the Asherahs.
you must say to them, "We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt in a powerful way.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets Moses had placed there in Horeb. (It was there that the Lord made an agreement with the Israelites after he brought them out of the land of Egypt.)
The Shuppites and Huppites were descendants of Ir; the Hushites were descendants of Aher.
Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah! Listen to me! You wives of Lamech, hear my words! I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for hurting me.
I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O Lord, my God.

Abraham spoke to him again, "What if forty are found there?" He replied, "I will not do it for the sake of the forty."
As the war continued between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was becoming more influential in the house of Saul.
I do not mean yours but the other person's. For why is my freedom being judged by another's conscience?
They refused to obey and did not recall your miracles that you had performed among them. Instead, they rebelled and appointed a leader to return to their bondage in Egypt. Even though they have hired lovers among the nations, I will soon gather them together for judgment. Then they will begin to waste away under the oppression of a mighty king.
And the commandment we have from him is this: that the one who loves God should love his fellow Christian too.
so that they may be offering incense to the God of heaven and may be praying for the good fortune of the king and his family.
So give your servant a discerning mind so he can make judicial decisions for your people and distinguish right from wrong. Otherwise no one is able to make judicial decisions for this great nation of yours."
who justly treats the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing.
The Lover to His Beloved: Like a lily among the thorns, so is my darling among the maidens.
See, I have given the Levites all the tithes in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they perform -- the service of the tent of meeting.

Here are the visions of my mind while I was on my bed. While I was watching, there was a tree in the middle of the land. It was enormously tall.
But I (the Lord says) will be a wall of fire surrounding Jerusalem and the source of glory in her midst.'"
While they are still beginning to flower and not ripe for cutting, they can wither away faster than any grass!
But he replied, "I can't go back with you or eat and drink with you in this place.
Now when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."

From there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.
But our tents have been destroyed. The ropes that held them in place have been ripped apart. Our children are gone and are not coming back. There is no survivor to put our tents back up, no one left to hang their tent curtains in place.
I said, "Who is wise enough to understand why this has happened? Who has a word from the Lord that can explain it? Why does the land lie in ruins? Why is it as scorched as a desert through which no one travels?"
The cities that the Philistines had captured from Israel were returned to Israel, from Ekron to Gath. Israel also delivered their territory from the control of the Philistines. There was also peace between Israel and the Amorites.
These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to investigate the land. And Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.
The people from Tyre who lived there were bringing fish and all kinds of merchandise and were selling it on the Sabbath to the people of Judah -- and in Jerusalem, of all places!
David went out to meet them and said, "If you come to me in peace and want to help me, then I will make an alliance with you. But if you come to betray me to my enemies when I have not harmed you, may the God of our ancestors take notice and judge!"
Like a slice of pomegranate is your forehead behind your veil.

Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these!
Now the residents of Beth Shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley. When they looked up and saw the ark, they were pleased at the sight.
The churches in the province of Asia send greetings to you. Aquila and Prisca greet you warmly in the Lord, with the church that meets in their house.
In that day you will cry out because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord won't answer you in that day."
They went from Midian to Paran; they took some men from Paran and went to Egypt. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, supplied him with a house and food and even assigned him some land.
And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
Now we know that God's judgment is in accordance with truth against those who practice such things.
You, however, have turned from the way. You have caused many to violate the law; you have corrupted the covenant with Levi," says the Lord who rules over all.
The faith you have, keep to yourself before God. Blessed is the one who does not judge himself by what he approves.
when your cattle and flocks increase, when you have plenty of silver and gold, and when you have abundance of everything,
The next day, because the commanding officer wanted to know the true reason Paul was being accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and the whole council to assemble. He then brought Paul down and had him stand before them.
Go west across the sea to the coasts of Cyprus and see. Send someone east to Kedar and have them look carefully. See if such a thing as this has ever happened:

Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God,

David and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord, shouting and blowing trumpets.
Blow the ram's horn in Gibeah! Sound the trumpet in Ramah! Sound the alarm in Beth Aven! Tremble in fear, O Benjamin!
The righteous do not encounter any harm, but the wicked are filled with calamity.
Now the Philistines had captured the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
Its gates will never be closed during the day (and there will be no night there).

Because of the anger of the Lord who commands armies, the land was scorched, and the people became fuel for the fire. People had no compassion on one another.
Those who carried the ark of the Lord took six steps and then David sacrificed an ox and a fatling calf.
David came to Saul and stood before him. Saul liked him a great deal, and he became his armor bearer.
When the Philistines heard that David had been designated king over Israel, they all went up to search for David. When David heard about it, he went down to the fortress.
I am afraid that when I come again, my God may humiliate me before you, and I will grieve for many of those who previously sinned and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and licentiousness that they have practiced.
The king ordered, "Go, find out where he is, so I can send some men to capture him." The king was told, "He is in Dothan."
if the king becomes angry and asks you, 'Why did you go so close to the city to fight? Didn't you realize they would shoot from the wall?
Joshua and the Israelites almost totally wiped them out, but some survivors did escape to the fortified cities.
And when she had said this, Martha went and called her sister Mary, saying privately, "The Teacher is here and is asking for you."
Because she took her prostitution so lightly, she defiled the land through her adulterous worship of gods made of wood and stone.
"You have criticized me sharply," says the Lord, "but you ask, 'How have we criticized you?'

All the people who were at the gate and the elders replied, "We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is entering your home like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built up the house of Israel! May you prosper in Ephrathah and become famous in Bethlehem.
What then is my reward? That when I preach the gospel I may offer the gospel free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights in the gospel.
She will place a fair garland on your head; she will bestow a beautiful crown on you."
These were the ones who served the king, besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
Don't be concerned about the donkeys that you lost three days ago, for they have been found. Whom does all Israel desire? Is it not you, and all your father's family?"
The priest must put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the Meeting Tent, and all the rest of the bull's blood he must pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.
Lord, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.
You must eat it in a holy place because it is your allotted portion and the allotted portion of your sons from the gifts of the Lord, for this is what I have been commanded.
Those prophets are just prophesying lies. They are prophesying the delusions of their own minds.
"'If anyone dies very suddenly beside him and he defiles his consecrated head, then he must shave his head on the day of his purification -- on the seventh day he must shave it.
and set free those who were held in slavery all their lives by their fear of death.
(Pharaoh, king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer. He burned it and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city. He gave it as a wedding present to his daughter, who had married Solomon.)
When they had stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing nearby, "Is it legal for you to lash a man who is a Roman citizen without a proper trial?"

But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
shouting, "Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this sanctuary! Furthermore he has brought Greeks into the inner courts of the temple and made this holy place ritually unclean!"
Pharaoh liked Hadad so well he gave him his sister-in-law (Queen Tahpenes' sister) as a wife.
"What are you, you great mountain? Because of Zerubbabel you will become a level plain! And he will bring forth the temple capstone with shoutings of 'Grace! Grace!' because of this."
You complained among yourselves privately and said, "Because the Lord hates us he brought us from Egypt to deliver us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us!
The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.
The one advancing against him will do as he pleases, and no one will be able to stand before him. He will prevail in the beautiful land, and its annihilation will be within his power.
Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, and Hilkiah was the father of Azariah.
So Jesus' brothers advised him, "Leave here and go to Judea so your disciples may see your miracles that you are performing.
The wealth of a rich person is like a fortified city, but the poor are brought to ruin by their poverty.
They said to him, "He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest."
Then Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you!
You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through Moses your servant.
They did not audit the treasurers who disbursed the funds to the foremen, for they were honest.
Certainly I am aware of your many rebellious acts and your numerous sins. You torment the innocent, you take bribes, and you deny justice to the needy at the city gate.
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and saw Jehu's troops approaching. He said, "I see troops!" Jehoram ordered, "Send a rider out to meet them and have him ask, 'Is everything all right?'"
So Samson's bride cried on his shoulder and said, "You must hate me; you do not love me! You told the young men a riddle, but you have not told me the solution." He said to her, "Look, I have not even told my father or mother. Do you really expect me to tell you?"
His servants said to him, "What is this that you have done? While the child was still alive, you fasted and wept. Once the child was dead you got up and ate food!"
But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice together with all of you.
