Luke 23:5-16 - Pilate Sends Jesus To Herod

⁵ But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place."

⁶ When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean. ⁷ And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time. ⁸ Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had desired to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by him. ⁹ Then he questioned him with many words, but he gave him no answer. ¹⁰ The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. ¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, dressing him in a gorgeous robe, he sent him back to Pilate. ¹² That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.

¹³ Pilate then called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, ¹⁴ and said to them, "You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him; ¹⁵ neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by him; ¹⁶ I will therefore chastise him and release him."
