Matthew 12:1-8 - Plucking Grain On The Sabbath

Matthew 12:1-8

1 AT that time Jesus walked through corn-fields on a sabbath-day; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do a thing that it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

3 And he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they who were with him? 4 how they went into the house of God, and did eat the loaves of shew-bread, of which it was not lawful for him or those who were with him to eat, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are not culpable? 6 Now I tell you, That one greater than the temple is here. 7 But if ye had known what that meant, I desire mercy and not sacrifice; ye would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Mark 2:23-28

23 And he was walking through the cornfields on the sabbath; and his disciples as they went on the road plucked the ears of corn. 24 And the Pharisees said to him, See, why are they doing on the sabbath, what is not lawful?

25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he was under necessity, and was hungry, himself and they who were with him? 26 How he entered into the house of God to Abiathar the high-priest; and did eat the shewbread, which it was not lawful for any to eat except the priests, and he gave also to those who were with him? 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. 28 Wherefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Luke 6:1-5

1 AND it came to pass on the sabbath after the second day of the passover, that he was passing through the cornfields; and the disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them out in their hands. 2 Then said some of the Pharisees unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful on the sabbath-day?

3 And Jesus answering said to them; Have ye never read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him? 4 how he entered into the house of God, and took the loaves of shew-bread, and did eat, and gave also to those who were with him; which it was not lawful for any to eat, but the priests alone? 5 And he said, The Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath-day.
