Chronicles 11:1-9 - The Anointing Of David As King

Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, and said, "See, we be thy bones and thy flesh. 2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou leddest Israel out and in. And the LORD thy God said unto thee, 'Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be captain over my people Israel.'"

And when all the elders of Israel were come to the king to Hebron, David made a covenant with them there before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Samuel.

And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem which is Jebus: for there dwelt the Jebusites the inhabiters of the land. 5 And the inhabiters of Jebus said to David, "Thou comest not here." Neverthelater, David won the castle of Zion, which is called the city of David.

Then said David, "Whosoever smite the Jebusites first, shall be the principal captain and a lord." And Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was therefore the chief captain.

And because David dwelt in the castle, therefore it was called the city of David. 8 And he built the city on every side even from Mello round about. But Joab repaired the rest of the city. 9 And David prospered and waxed great, and the LORD of Hosts was with him.
