Matthew 1:18-25 - The Birth Of Jesus Christ
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not wishing to make an example of her, purposed privately to divorce her.
20 And, while thinking of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to yourself Mary your wife; for that which was begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus; for He will save His people from their sins."
22 Now all this has come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel," which is, being interpreted, God with us.
24 And Joseph, arising from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord directed him, and took to himself his wife; 25 and he knew her not, until she brought forth a Son, and he called His name Jesus.
1 Now it came to pass, in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabited earth should be enrolled. 2 (This enrolment first was made, when Quirinius was governor of Syria). 3 And all were going to be enrolled, each to his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; 5 to enrol himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child. 6 And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days were fulfilled for her to give birth; 7 and she brought forth her Son, the Firstborn, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
