Judges 2:20-Judges 3:4 - The Lord Allows The Nations To Stay In Order To Test His People

20 And the anger of Jehovah glowed against Israel. And He said, Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to My voice, 21 I also from now on will not expel any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died; 22 so that by them I may test Israel, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept it, or not. 23 And Jehovah left those nations, without driving them out quickly. And He did not deliver them into the hand of Joshua.

1 And these are the nations which Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan; 2 only that the generations of the sons of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least those who before knew nothing of it: 3 five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that lived in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon to the border of Hamath. 4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commands of Jehovah, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
