Hebrews 4:1-13 - The Rest That Remains For The People Of God

1 Let us, therefore, fear, lest a promise still being left of entering into His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. 2 For, indeed, we have had the Gospel proclaimed to us, even as also they; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not having been mingled with faith on the part of those who heard. 3 For we who believed do enter into rest, even as He said, "As I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter into My rest; although the works were finished from the founding of a world." 4 For He hath spoken somewhere concerning the seventh day thus: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works;"

5 and, in this place, again: "They shall not enter into My rest." 6 Since, therefore, it remains for some to enter into it, and those to whom the Gospel was formerly proclaimed entered not in because of unbelief, 7 again He designateth a certain day, "To-day" (saying in David, after so long a time, as has been before said), "To-day, if ye hear His voice, harden not your hearts."

8 For, had Joshua given them rest, He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 Consequently, there remains a sabbath-keeping for the people of God. 10 For He Who entered into His rest, Himself also rested from his works, as God did from His Own. 11 Let us, therefore, give diligence to enter into that rest, that no one fall after the same example of unbelief.

12 For the word of God is living, and effectual, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to a dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature that is not manifest in His presence; but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him with Whom is our account.
