The angel of Jehovah found Hagar near a spring in the desert. It was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. He said: Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going? I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count. Jehovah's angel also said: You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael (means: God hears). Jehovah has heard of your misery. He (Ishmael) will be a wild donkey of a man. His hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him. He will live in hostility toward all his brothers. She called the name of Jehovah, who spoke to her: You are the God who sees me, for she said, 'I have not seen the one who sees me.'

He said: I am taking an oath on my own name, declares Jehovah, that because you have done this and have not refused to give me your son, your only son, I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities. All the nations will ask me to bless them as I have blessed your descendants. This is because you obeyed my command.'

Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob.' I said, here I am. He said, 'Look up and see, now (please), that all the male goats that are mating are striped, speckled, or spotted, because I have seen everything that Laban is doing to you. read more. But Jacob said: I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing. Then he asked: What is your name? And he said, Jacob. The man said: Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel (He Struggles With God), because you have struggled with God and with men and you have won. Jacob said: Please tell me your name. The man answered: Why do you ask for my name? Then he blessed Jacob there. Jacob named that place Peniel (Face of God), because he said: I have seen God face to face, yet my life was saved.

There the angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up. This is strange, he thought. God then said to Moses: [I exist and] I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE. You shall say to the sons of Israel: I WILL BE, has sent me to you.' (Hebrew: hayah, I was, I am, I will be gives evidence of God's eternal existence)

I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the way and to bring you into the place that I have prepared.

This is the Moses that said to the children of Israel, your God will raise up a prophet like me from your brothers. This one was with our father in the congregation in the wilderness. The angel spoke to him on Mount Sinai. He received the living oracles to give to us.

Jehovah said to Abraham: Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?' Is anything too hard for Jehovah? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life. Sarah shall have a son!

Jehovah went his way as soon as he finished speaking with Abraham. Abraham returned to his place.
