kindred of the High; i.e., "friend of Jehovah."
(1.) The son of Kohath, the son of Levi. He married Jochebed, "his father's sister," and was the father of Aaron, Miriam, and Moses (Ex 6:18,20; Nu 3:19). He died in Egypt at the age of 137 years (Ex 6:20). His descendants were called Amramites (Nu 3:27; 1Ch 26:23).

The Amramites are mentioned in Nu 3:27; 1Ch 26:23. 2. A son of Bani who had contracted a foreign marriage (Ezr 10:34).
