imperfection or bodily deformity excluding men from the priesthood, and rendering animals unfit to be offered in sacrifice (Le 21:17-23; 22:19-25). The Christian church, as justified in Christ, is "without blemish" (Eph 5:27). Christ offered himself a sacrifice "without blemish," acceptable to God (1Pe 1:19).

Say to Aaron, Any one of your sons in their successive generations who has any blemish, let him not come near to offer the bread of his God. For no man who has a blemish shall approach [God's altar to serve as priest], a man blind or lame, or he who has a disfigured face or a limb too long, read more. BLEMISH, whatever renders a person or thing imperfect or uncomely. The Jewish law required the priests to be free from blemishes of person, Le 21:17-23; 22:20-24. Scandalous professors are blemishes to the church of God, 2Pe 2:13; Jude 1:12, and therefore ought to be put away from it, in the exercise of a godly discipline.
