There are four Hebrew words thus translated. The principal point of interest in connection with the subject is with reference to the Israelites borrowing from the Egyptians at the Exodus, as in the A.V. The word there is shaal, and it is translated 'ask' 88 times; there can be no doubt therefore that 'ask' is the more appropriate word in Ex 3:22; 11:2; 12:35. In Ex 22:14 and 2Ki 6:5 however the word 'borrow' is better retained.
