Then Abraham rose and bowed down to the Hittites, the people of the land.

He himself went on ahead and bowed to the ground seven times until he approached his brother.

They answered, "Your servant our father is well. He is still alive." And they bowed down to honor him.

"Neither," He replied. "I have now come as commander of the Lord's army." Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, "What does my Lord want to say to His servant?"

and so that you do not associate with these nations remaining among you. Do not call on the names of their gods or make an oath to them; do not worship them or bow down to them.

Whenever the judge died, the Israelites would act even more corruptly than their fathers, going after other gods to worship and bow down to them. They did not turn from their [evil] practices or their obstinate ways.

All who prosper on earth will eat and bow down; all those who go down to the dust will kneel before Him- even the one who cannot preserve his life.

May desert tribes kneel before him and his enemies lick the dust.

Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

It serves as fuel for man. He takes some of it and warms himself; also he kindles a fire and bakes bread; he even makes it into a god and worships it; he makes it an idol and bows down to it.

What should I bring before the Lord when I come to bow before God on high? Should I come before Him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves?

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father
