To 'challenge' in the language of AV is to claim, as in Golding's tr of Calvin's Job, p. 578; 'Iob neuer went about to challenge such perfection, as to have no sinne in him.' The word occurs in Ex 22:9, in the heading of Is 45 'By his omnipotency he challengeth obedience;' and in Job 3:5 Authorized Version margin.
"For every breach of trust, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any lost thing about which one says, 'This is it,' the case of both parties shall come before the judges; he whom the judges condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.
