There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

Yahweh said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause."

In the older Eng. versions of the Bible 'eschew' is common. In AV it occurs only in Job 1:1,8; 2:3 of Job himself, as Job 1:1 'one that feared God, and eschewed evil,' and in 1Pe 3:11 'Let him eschew evil, and do good.' The meaning is 'turn away from' (as RV at 1Pe 3:11 and Amer. RV everywhere).
