American
A city in the mountains of Judah, surrounded by fat pastures, and formerly occupied by the Amalekites, 1Ch 4:39; 12:7; Jos 15:58. It is now called Jedur, and lies about eight miles southwest of Bethlehem. Gedor is also the name of a man, 1Ch 8:31; 9:37.

a wall. (1.) A city in the mountains or hill country of Judah (Jos 15:58), identified with Jedar, between Jerusalem and Hebron.
(2.) 1Ch 4:39, the Gederah of Jos 15:36, or the well-known Gerar, as the LXX. read, where the patriarchs of old had sojourned and fed their flocks (Ge 20:1,14-15; 6/1/type/J2000'>26:1,6,14).
(3.) A town apparently in Benjamin (1Ch 12:7), the same probably as Geder (Jos 12:13).

1. Jos 15:58. A few miles N. of Hebron. Perhaps now Jedur between Bethlehem and Hebron, two miles W. of the road.
2. A town of Benjamin, to which belonged Jeroham, father of Joelah and Zebadiah, who "of Saul's brethren of Benjamite" joined David at Ziklag (1Ch 12:7).
3. Ancestor of Saul (1Ch 8:31; 9:37).
4. Among Judah's posterity (1Ch 4:4,18).
5. See GEDER. (1Ch 4:39.) Simeonite chiefs in Hezekiah's reign "went to the entrance of (rather as Keil, 'westward from') Gedor unto the eastern side of the valley to seek pasture for their flocks," and they dislodged the Hamites "dwelling there of old, and dwelt in their room." On the way between southern Judah and mount Seir. Septuagint reads "Gerar" (but Simeon's dwellings did not extend westward from Gerar, but were all E. of Gerar).

a few miles north of Hebron. Robinson discovered a Jedur halfway between Bethlehem and Hebron, about two miles west of the road.
