A town belonging to the tribe of Dan, and a Levitical city (Jos 19:44; 21:23). Nadab, king of Israel, was besieging it when he was slain by Baasha; and Omri was similarly engaged when he was made king by the army (1Ki 15:27; 16:16-17). It is possibly the modern Kibbiah, to the N.E. of Lydda.
From the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,
Then Baasha the son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
The people who were camped heard it said, "Zimri has conspired and has also struck down the king." Therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.
