This is an unhappy expression, bringing in the name of God where it does not occur. In the O.T. it is chalilah, 'far be it.' Ge 44:7,17, etc. In the N.T. ?? ???????, 'let it not be.' Ro 3:4,6,31, etc.
They said to him, "Why does my lord say these things? Your servants could not possibly do such a thing.
Then Joseph said, "I swear that I will not do this. The man in whose possession the cup was found will be my slave. The rest of you can go in peace to your father."
Absolutely not! God must be true, but everyone is a liar, as it is written: That You may be justified in Your words and triumph when You judge.
Absolutely not! Otherwise, how will God judge the world?
Do we then cancel the law through faith? Absolutely not! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
