A race of early dwellers in mount Seir, whence they were expelled by the Edomites, Ge 14:6; De 2:12,22. They are supposed to have lived in caves, like the men referred to in Job 30:6, and to have been divided into several tribes, Ge 36:20-30.

These, are the sons of Ezer, - Bilhan and Zaavan, and Akan. These, are the sons of Dishan, - Uz and Aran. These, are the chiefs of the Horites, - Chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah; chief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. These, are the chiefs of the Horites, after their chiefs in the land of Seir.
And in Seir, dwelt the Horim aforetime, but, the sons of Esau, dispossessed them, and destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead, - as did Israel unto the land of his own possession, which Yahweh had given unto them.
