Hastings
1. One of David's thirty heroes (2Sa 23:26). He is described as 'the Paltite,' i.e. a native of Beth-pelet in the Negeb of Judah (cf. Jos 15:27; Ne 11:26). But in the two parallel lists (1Ch 11:27; 27:10) both the Hebrew text and the Septuagint read 'the Pelonite.' The former reading is further inconsistent with 1Ch 27:10, where Helez is expressly designated as 'of the children of Ephraim.' He was in command of the military guard appointed for the seventh monthly course of the Temple service. See Pelonite. 2. A Judahite (1Ch 2:39).
