It is the object of this article to give a brief account of St. John's teaching as contained in his Gospel and Epistles. Without prejudging in any way the authorship of the Apocalypse, it will be more convenient that the doctrine of that book should be considered separately. Enough if it be said here that, despite the obvious and very striking difference in the form and style of the book, the underlying similarities between it and those to be now considered are no less remarkable. Careful students, not blinded by the symbolism and other peculiarities of the Revelation, who have concentrated attention upon its main ideas and principles, have come to the conclusion that if it did not proceed from the same pen that wrote the Gospel and Epistles, it belongs to the same school of Christian thought. The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world,
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, in like manner must the Son of man be lifted up:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth in him should not perish, but have life eternal. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world by him might be saved.

Herein is love, not that we have loved God, but that he hath loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiatory sacrifice for our sins.
And we have known and believed the love which God hath towards us. God is love; and he that abideth in love, abideth in God, and God in him. By this is his love towards us perfected, that we might have confidence at the day of judgment; because as he is, so are we in this world.
If any person say, I love God, yet hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he who loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love the God whom he hath not seen?
EVERY one who believeth that Jesus is the Messiah, is born of God; and every one who loveth him that begat, loveth him also who is begotten by him.
Because every one that is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory which overcometh the world, our faith.
We know that every one who is born of God sinneth not; but he that is born of God preserveth himself, and the wicked one toucheth him not.
