Reference: Kedemoth

A city in the border of Sihon king of Heshbon, whence Moses sent him an embassage of peace. A desert lay near it, De 2:26. It was afterwards a Levitical city of Reuben, Jos 13:18; 21:37.

beginnings; easternmost, a city of Reuben, assigned to the Levites of the family of Merari (Jos 13:18). It lay not far north-east of Dibon-gad, east of the Dead Sea.

("easternmost parts".) A town E. of the Dead Sea, assigned to Reuben (Jos 13:18), then to the Merarite Levites (Jos 21:37). A wilderness or uncultivated pasture adjoining was named from it; where Israel encamped when Moses asked leave of Sihon to pass through the Amorite country (De 2:26, etc.).

A place apparently on the upper course of the Arnon, assigned to Reuben (Jos 13:18), and a Levitical city (Jos 21:37 = 1Ch 6:79). From the 'wilderness of Kedemoth' messengers were sent by Moses to Sihon (De 2:26). The site may be the ruin Umm er-Ras

Ked'emoth

(beginnings), one of the towns in the district east of the Dead Sea allotted to the tribe of Reuben,

It possibly conferred its name on the "wilderness," or uncultivated pasture land, "of Kedemoth."
