The Eng. word 'lace' comes from Lat. laqueus, a 'snare,' and is used in that sense in Old Eng. It is then employed for any cord or hand, and that is its meaning in Ex 28:28,37; 39:2 f., Ex 39:31, Sir 6:30.
"They shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a blue cord, so that it will be on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, and that the breastpiece will not come loose from the ephod.
"You shall fasten it on a blue cord, and it shall be on the turban; it shall be at the front of the turban.
He made the ephod of gold, and of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen.
They fastened a blue cord to it, to fasten it on the turban above, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
