One of the first seven deacons, who were chosen and appointed at Jerusalem soon after the Pentecostal descent of the Holy Ghost, Ac 6:1-6.

One of the seven ordained for ministration of alms. "of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom," but also preachers of the gospel (Ac 6:1-10; 8:5).
