Knowing this first, that scoffers will come in the last days, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for from the time the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as at the beginning of the creation. read more. But this willfully escapes them, that, by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth subsisting from the water, and by water: by which the world that then was, being deluged with water, perished. But the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured up, being kept for fire to a day of judgment, and destruction of ungodly men. But this one thing, let it not escape you, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord does not delay his promise in the manner some account delaying; but he exercises long-suffering toward us, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should come to reformation.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, who is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the abyss, and shut him down, and set a seal upon him, that he might not deceive the nations any more, till the thousand years were accomplished; and then he must be loosed again for a little time. read more. And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them-even the souls of them who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast, nor his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads, and upon their hands; and they lived, and reigned with Christ a thousand years: but the rest of the dead revived not till the thousand years were accomplished: this is the first resurrection. Happy and holy is he who has a part in the first resurrection! on such, the second death shall have no power; but they shall be the priests of God, and of Christ: and they shall reign with him a thousand years. And when the thousand years shall be accomplished, Satan shall be loosed from his confinement;
