And the sons of Hananiah: Pelatiah, and Jesaiah, the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, the sons of Shechaniah.
And some of them, of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the eastern gate of Jehovah's house, which faces eastward. And behold, twenty-five men were at the opening of the gate; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, rulers of the people. And He said to me, Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked advice in this city; read more. who say, It is not near; let us build houses; this city is the pot, and we are the flesh. Therefore prophesy against them. Prophesy, O son of man! And the Spirit of Jehovah fell on me, and said to me, Speak: So says Jehovah: So you have said, O house of Israel, for I Myself know the elevations of your spirit. You have multiplied your dead in this city, and you have filled its streets with the dead. Therefore so says the Lord Jehovah: Your slain whom you have laid in her midst, they are the flesh, and this city is the pot. But I will bring you out of her midst. You have feared the sword, and I will bring a sword on you, says the Lord Jehovah. And I will bring you out of her midst, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will execute judgments on you. You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you in the border of Israel, and you shall know that I am Jehovah. This city shall not be your pot, nor shall you be the flesh in her midst. But I will judge you in the border of Israel, and you shall know that I am Jehovah. For you have not walked in My statutes, nor have you done My judgments, but have done after the customs of the nations all around you. And it happened when I prophesied, Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. And I fell on my face and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord Jehovah! Will You make a full end of the remnant of Israel?

4. One of the 25 princes; ringleader of the scorners "devising mischief." Like Ananias (Ac 5:5) stricken dead; an earnest of the destruction of the rest, as Ezekiel foretold (Eze 11:1-13). The prophet fell on his face thereupon saying, "Ah! Lord God! wilt Thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?" The people regarded Pelatiah as a mainstay of the city. His name suggested hope, from paalat "to escape," or Yah pileet, "God delivers." Is that hope to be disappointed? asks Ezekiel; is his death a token that all, even the remnant, shall be destroyed?

And hearing these words, Ananias fell down and expired. And great fear came on all those who heard these things.

It is difficult to decide whether Pelatiah's death is to be understood as actual or merely symbolical. 2. A grandson of Zerubbabel (1Ch 3:21). 3. A Simeonite (1Ch 4:42). 4.
