SILENCE. This word not only signifies to refrain from speaking; but also in the style of the Hebrews, it is taken for, "to be quiet, to remain immovable." As for example: "Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon," in Hebrew, be silent. "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed," Jos 10:12-13, or were silent, at the commandment of Joshua.
