a plain, a level tract extending from the Mediterranean to the hill country to the west of Jerusalem, about 30 miles long and from 8 to 15 miles broad, celebrated for its beauty and fertility (1Ch 27:29; Isa 33:9; 35:2; 65:10). The "rose of Sharon" is celebrated (Song 2:1). It is called Lasharon (the article la being here a part of the word) in Jos 12:18.
Shitrai the Sharonite had charge of the cattle which were grazing in Sharon; and Shaphat the son of Adlai had charge of the cattle in the valleys.
The land mourns and pines away, Lebanon is shamed and withers; Sharon is like a desert plain, And Bashan and Carmel lose their foliage.
It will blossom profusely And rejoice with rejoicing and shout of joy The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, The majesty of Carmel and Sharon They will see the glory of the LORD, The majesty of our God.
