TEREBINTH does not occur at all in AV, and only thrice in RV, being substituted in Isa 6:13 for 'tail tree,' in Ho 4:13 for 'elm,' and in Sir 24:16 for 'turpentine tree.' Strong reasons, however, can be urged for rendering by 'terebinth' in a great many instances where English Version has 'oak' (see Oak). The terebinth or turpentine tree (Sir 24:16)
"Yet there will be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is felled The holy seed is its stump."
They offer sacrifices on the tops of the mountains And burn incense on the hills, Under oak, poplar and terebinth, Because their shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters play the harlot And your brides commit adultery.
