was probably written a year or so after the first, and from Rome, where Paul was for a second time a prisoner, and was sent to Timothy by the hands of Tychicus. In it he entreats Timothy to come to him before winter, and to bring Mark with him (comp. Php 2:22). He was anticipating that "the time of his departure was at hand" (2Ti 4:6), and he exhorts his "son Timothy" to all diligence and steadfastness, and to patience under persecution (2Ti 1:6-15), and to a faithful discharge of all the duties of his office (2Ti 4:1-5), with all the solemnity of one who was about to appear before the Judge of quick and dead.

This you know: all those in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
Before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom, I solemnly charge you: proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. read more. For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will accumulate teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. But as for you, keep a clear head about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close.
