of the Israelites in the wilderness in consequence of their rebellious fears to enter the Promised Land (Nu 14:26-35). They wandered for forty years before they were permitted to cross the Jordan (Jos 4:19; 5:6).
The record of these wanderings is given in Nu 33:1-49. Many of the stations at which they camped cannot now be identified.
Questions of an intricate nature have been discussed regarding the "Wanderings," but it is enough for us to take the sacred narrative as it stands, and rest assured that "He led them forth by the right way" (Ps 107:1-7,33-35). (See Wilderness.)

And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, How long shall I bear with this evil assembly, which murmur against me? For the children of Israel had walked forty years in the wilderness, till the whole nation of men of war had perished who had come out of Egypt, who had not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah; to whom Jehovah had sworn that he would not show them the land which Jehovah had sworn unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, read more.
