If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hurried to deceit,

If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or I have laid wait at my neighbor's door,

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

or have eaten my bit alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it,

if I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, or there was no covering for the needy;

if his loins have not blessed me, and he warmed himself with the fleece of my flock;

if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless when I watched over my help in the gate;

If I have made gold my hope, or have called fine gold my trust;

this also would be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied the God above.

if I have eaten its strength without silver, or have caused its owner to expire,

that you do not say, We have found out wisdom. God has pushed him down, not man.

They are broken; they answer no more; words have left them.

And He also would have lured you from the mouth of distress to a wide place not cramped; and the setting of your table would be full of fatness.

But you have fulfilled the judgment of the wicked; judgment and justice take hold;

Beware, do not turn to iniquity; for this you have chosen rather than affliction.

Who has appointed Him His way; or who can say, You have done wrong?

Remember that you magnify His work of which men have sung;

Have you beat out the expanse with Him, hard like a cast mirror?

Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell if you have understanding!

Have you commanded the morning from your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,

Have you gone to the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths?

Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

Have you understood the breadth of the earth? Tell, if you know it all!

Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow? Or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,

which I have kept for the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

to whom I have assigned the wilderness for its home, and the salt land for its dwellings?

Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with a mane?

And have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His?

You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their grain and their wine increased.

Hold them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.

Have mercy on me, O Jehovah, for I am weak; O Jehovah, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

O Jehovah my God, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands;

if I have rewarded evil to my friend, or if I have delivered one oppressing me without cause;

Arise, O Jehovah, in Your anger; lift up Yourself because of the rage of my enemies, and awake for me to the judgment which You have commanded.

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of ones vexing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease.

When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established;

For You have made him lack a little from God, and have crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet:

When my enemies have turned back, they shall fall and perish before You.

For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat in the throne judging right.

You have rebuked the heathen, You have destroyed the wicked, You have put out their name forever and ever.

The desolations of the enemy have come to an end forever, and You have destroyed the cities; their memorial has perished with them.

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Have mercy on me, O Jehovah; see my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death,

The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made; their foot is caught in the net which they hid.

The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the plans that they have imagined.

He crouches and bows, and the poor have fallen by his might.

You have seen it; for You behold mischief and vexation, to repay it with Your hand. The poor commits himself to You; You are the Helper of the fatherless.

Jehovah is King forever and ever; the nations have perished out of His land.

Jehovah, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear,

lest my enemy say, I have overcome him, and my foes rejoice when I am shaken.

But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.

All have gone aside, together they are filthy; there is none who does good, no, not one.

Have all the workers of iniquity not known, eating up My people as they eat bread? They have not called on Jehovah.

You have shamed the counsel of the poor, because Jehovah is his refuge.

Oh my soul, you have said to Jehovah, You are my Lord; I have no goodness apart from You.

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I have set Jehovah always before Me; because He is at My right hand, I shall not be moved.

You have proved my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me, and You will find nothing; my thoughts do not pass beyond my mouth.

My steps have been held in Your paths, so that my footsteps have not slipped.

I have called on You, for You will hear me, O God; bow down Your ear to me; hear my speech.

they have now hemmed in our steps, they have set their eyes to bow me to the earth,

For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

For by You I have run through a troop; and by my God I have leaped over a wall.

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your right hand has held me up, and Your gentleness has made me great.

You have given a wide place for my steps under me, so that my feet have not slipped.

I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; nor did I turn again until they were destroyed.

I have shattered them, and they cannot rise again; they have fallen under my feet.

For You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have humbled under me those who rose up against me.

You have also given me the neck of my enemies; so that I might destroy those who hate me.

You have delivered Me from the strivings of the people; You have made Me the head of the nations; a people whom I have not known shall serve Me.

He delivers me from my enemies; yea, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.

They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright.

You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the prayer of his lips. Selah.
