I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier, and I am not fit even to carry his sandals; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire.

Jesus replied, "Truly, truly I tell you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter God's Realm.

John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, as there was plenty of water there, and people came to him and were baptized

and a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink"

Jesus answered, "If you knew what is the free gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked him instead, and he would have given you 'living' water."

Then the woman left her water-pot, and going off to the town told the people,

Once more he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. There was a royal official, whose son was lying ill at Capernaum;

where a crowd of invalids used to lie, the blind, the lame, and folk with shrivelled limbs [waiting for the water to bubble.

For an angel used to descend from time to time into the bath, and disturb the water; whereupon the first person who stepped in after the water was disturbed was restored to health, no matter what disease he had been afflicted with].

The invalid replied, "Sir, I have nobody to put me into the bath, when the water is disturbed; and while I am getting down myself, someone else gets in before me."

So the disciple who was Jesus' favourite said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" Hearing it was the Lord, Simon Peter threw on his blouse (he was stripped for work) and jumped into the water,

"for John baptized with water, but not many days after this you shall be baptized with the holy Spirit."

Now for some time previous a man called Simon had been practising magic arts in the town, to the utter astonishment of the Samaritan nation; he made himself out to be a great person,

As they travelled on, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Here is water! What is to prevent me being baptized?"

So he ordered the chariot to stop. Both of them stepped into the water, and Philip baptized the eunuch.

When they came up from the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch lost sight of him. He went on his way rejoicing,

"Can anyone refuse water for the baptism of these people ??people who have received the holy Spirit just as we ourselves have?"

and I remembered the saying of the Lord, that 'John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the holy Spirit.'

Any wider claim must be settled in the legal assembly of the citizens.

When the fourteenth night arrived, we were drifting about in the sea of Adria, when the sailors about midnight suspected land was near.

His faith never quailed, even when he noted the utter impotence of his own body (for he was about a hundred years old) or the impotence of Sara's womb;

The eater must not look down upon the non-eater, and the non-eater must not criticize the eater, for God has welcomed him.

and he saved us, not for anything we had done but from his own pity for us, by the water that means regeneration and renewal under the holy Spirit

They wilfully ignore the fact that heavens existed long ago, and an earth which the word of God formed of water and by water.

Jesus Christ, he it is who came by water, blood, and Spirit ??not by the water alone, but by the water and the blood.
