And behold, [there was] a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath?" in order that they could accuse him.
But the Pharisees went out {and plotted} against him in order that they could destroy him.
Then a demon-possessed man [who was] blind and mute was brought to him. And he healed him so that the [man who was] mute could speak and see.
All the crowds were amazed and said, "Could this one be the Son of David?"
besides, how could any one enter into the house of a man of might to rob him of his goods, except he first master the strong man? and then indeed he might plunder his house.
For I tell you, many prophets and upright men have longed to see what you see, and could not see it, and to hear what you hear, and could not hear it.
"The kingdom of heaven is similar to a person finding a treasure hidden in a field. After finding it, he was so happy he hid it [again], then went out and sold everything he owned so he could buy that field.
There he could not do many miracles owing to their lack of faith.
Then immediately Jesus ordered the disciples to enter the boat and row on ahead of Him to the other side [i.e., to the west side of Lake Galilee] until He could send the crowds away.
They begged him if they could only touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, I have given to God the money I could have helped you with;'
And Jesus having called his disciples, said, I feel compassion for the crowd, for already they remain with me three days, and they have nothing they could eat: and I will not leave them fasting, lest they be relaxed in the way.
And the disciples said to him, "Where in [this] desolate place {can we get} so much bread that such a great crowd could be satisfied?"
How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"
For what would a man be advantaged, though he could gain the whole world, if he should suffer the loss of his soul? or what will a man give as the ransom for his soul?
And having responded, Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If thou desire, we could make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
He answered them, "[It was] because you had such little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as [small as] a mustard tree seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to that place over there' and it would move. And nothing will be impossible for you [to do]." {[{[Some manuscripts contain the following verse:
"Yes," answered Peter. But, on going into the house, before he could speak, Jesus said: "What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings take taxes or tribute? From their sons, or from others?"
Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how many times could my brother sin against me and I forgive him? As many as seven times?”
Then children were brought to him so that he could lay his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.
Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed Him.
When His disciples saw this, they marvelled, saying, "How could the fig tree wither up so suddenly?"
"So they went out into the roads and gathered together all they could find, both bad and good, and the banqueting hall was filled with guests.
And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here, not having wedding clothes?' But {he could say nothing}.
Then the Pharisees went {and consulted} so that they could entrap him with a statement.
No one could say a word in reply, nor from that day did any one venture again to put a question to Him.
And unless those days should be made few, no flesh could be saved. But on account of the elect those days shall be made few.
Therefore, you ought to have put my money with the bankers; and, when I came, I could have received my own with interest.
And from that time on, he began seeking a favorable opportunity in order that he could betray him.
Then He said to them, "My soul is extremely grieved, even to [the point where I could] die. Stay here and be alert with me [i.e., in prayer]."
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
And he came again [and] found them sleeping, {for they could not keep their eyes open}.
Or do you think that I couldn't ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?
How, then, could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?"
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death.
But they could not find any, even though many false witnesses
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
Then he released Barabbas for them, but [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified.
As they were leaving [i.e., probably the city of Jerusalem], they met a man from Cyrene [Note: This was a city in the northern African country of Libya]. His name was Simon and they forced him to go with them so he could carry Jesus' cross [i.e., probably only the cross-beam portion].
and cry'd, you that could destroy the temple, and rebuild it in three days, now save thy self: if thou art the son of God, come down from the cross.
