Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

If you do this, then the kings and princes who follow in David's succession and ride in chariots or on horses will continue to enter through these gates, as well as their officials and the people of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem. This city will always be filled with people.

O house of David, so says Jehovah: Do judgment in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go out like fire, and burn so that none can put it out, because of the evil of your doings.

Say: 'Listen, O king of Judah who follows in David's succession. You, your officials, and your subjects who pass through the gates of this palace must listen to what the Lord says.

For if you will indeed obey this word, then kings will enter through the gates of this palace, sitting in Davids place on his throne, riding in chariots and on horses, even the king himself and his servants and his people.

But this is what the Lord says concerning the king sitting on Davids throne and concerning all the people living in this city—that is, concerning your brothers who did not go with you into exile.

But they shall serve the Lord their God and [the descendant of] David their King, whom I will raise up for them.

Just as surely as I have done this, so surely will I never reject the descendants of Jacob. Nor will I ever refuse to choose one of my servant David's descendants to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Indeed, I will restore them and show mercy to them."

Therefore, this is what the Lord says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on Davids throne, and his corpse will be thrown out to be exposed to the heat of day and the frost of night.
