He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no other did, they had not had sin:
If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
They will do these things to you because they have not had knowledge of the Father or of me.
But I have told you these things so that, when the time comes [for people to do such things], you will remember that I had warned you. I did not tell you them at the beginning [of my ministry] because I was with you [i.e., to protect you from persecution].
Jesus saw that they had a desire to put the question to him, so he said to them, Is this what you are questioning one with another, why I said, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me?
for the Father himself has affection for you, because ye have had affection for me, and have believed that I came out from God.
When Jesus had spoken these things, He raised His eyes to heaven [in prayer] and said,
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
I have made known thy name to the persons whom thou gavest me out of the world: for thee they had a being, and to me thou hast given them; and thy word have they kept.
Father, it is my desire that these whom you have given to me may be by my side where I am, so that they may see my glory which you have given to me, because you had love for me before the world came into being.
Righteous Father, though the world did not know you, I knew you, and these men knew that you had sent me.
I have made thee known to them, and will do so still; that the love that thou has had for me may be in their hearts, and that I may be in them also."
When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
and Judas also, who delivered him up, had known the place, because many times did Jesus assemble there with his disciples.
Judas then after he had received a bond of men, and ministers of the high priests, and of the Pharisees, came thither with lanterns, and firebrands, and weapons.
They answered him, Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus says to them, I am he. And Judas, the man betraying him had also stood with them.
As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
This was to fulfill and verify the words He had spoken,
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
and brought him first of all to Annas (for Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year ??14 the Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it was for their interests that one man should die for the people).
It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die on behalf of the people.
Now Simon Peter had followed Jesus, and another disciple: and that disciple was acquainted with the high-priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high-priest.
But Peter was kept outside at the door. Then this other disciple, who was a friend of the high priest, came out and had a word with the girl who kept the door, and took Peter in.
And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
why do you question me? ask those who heard me, what discourse I had with them: they know very well what I said.
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
Now Simon Peter had been standing and warming himself [by the outdoor charcoal fire]. So, someone asked him, "Are you not one of His disciples, too?" Peter denied it, saying, "[No], I am not."
One of the slaves of the high priest, who was related to the one whose ear Peter had cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with him?"
Then, early in the morning they led Jesus from Caiaphas to [governor Pilate's] headquarters. But the Jewish authorities would not enter it, because [if they had] they would have become ceremonially unclean, and could not eat the Passover meal. [Note: This was because they regarded a Gentile house as defiling].
they answered and said to him, 'If he were not an evil doer, we had not delivered him to thee.'
This was to fulfill the word which Jesus had spoken to indicate by what manner of death He was going to die.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my servants had fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
So then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.
Hearing this, Pilate had a desire to let him go free, but the Jews said in a loud voice, If you let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend: everyone who makes himself a king goes against Caesar.
When Pilate heard that, he had Jesus brought out and had him sit in the judge's seat in the place they call the Stone Platform, or in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
Pilate also had a sign lettered and put on the cross. The inscription was:
JESUS THE NAZARENE
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Now many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus had been crucified was close to the city; besides, the inscription was in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

Now a vessel full of vinegar had been set there; and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon a hyssop-stalk, and put it to his mouth.
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first and of the other that had been crucified with him;
And another Scripture says [Zech. 12:10], "People will look at him whom they [had] pierced."
Nicodemus, who had first come to Him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, [weighing] about a hundred [Roman]
But there was in the place where he had been crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid.
So, they placed Jesus' body there, for it was the Day of Preparation and that was the closest grave site. [Note: Since this was the day before the Passover Festival, and the next day was also the regular weekly Sabbath, they had to bury the body before sundown to comply with Jewish restrictions against working on a Sabbath day].
Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw the stone [already] removed from the [groove across the entrance of the] tomb.
Then Simon Peter, who had been following him, arrived and went right into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen cloth lying there,
and the [burial]
So the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, went in too; and he saw [the wrappings and the face-cloth] and

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
Now [when it] was evening on that day--the first [day] of the week--and the doors had been shut where the disciples were because of fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace to you."
And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
And after eight days his disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. [Although] the doors had been shut, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said, "Peace to you."
Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here [i.e., to touch the nail scars] and look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side [i.e., where the spear had pierced Him]. Stop doubting and believe [that it is really I]."
But when day had already come, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples didn't know that it was Jesus.
And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find. Therefore they cast, and now they no longer had the strength to draw, from the multitude of fish.
This made the disciple whom Jesus loved say to Peter, "It is the Master." Simon Peter therefore, when he heard the words, "It is the Master," drew on his fisherman's shirt--for he had not been wearing it--put on his girdle, and sprang into the water.
As soon then as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid upon them, and bread.
So Simon Peter went on board the boat and drew the net ashore full of large fish, 153 in number; and yet, although there were so many, the net had not broken.

Jesus told him, "Take care of my sheep." He asked him a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was deeply hurt that he had asked him a third time, "Do you love me?" So he told him, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you!"
Truly I say to you, When you were young, you made yourself ready and went wherever you had a desire to go: but when you are old, you will put out your hands and another will make you ready, and you will be taken where you have no desire to go.
This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
Peter turned and saw the
which occasion'd a flying rumour among the brethren, that John should not die: tho' Jesus had not said, he shall not die: but, if I will have him stay till I come, what have you to do with that?
Truly the first word had I made of all things, O Theophilus, of which Jesus began to do and also to teach,
Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
to whom also he presented himself living, after he had suffered, with many proofs; being seen by them during forty days, and speaking of the things which concern the kingdom of God;

And, while they were looking steadfastly into heaven as he was going his way, then lo! two men had taken their stand beside them, in white garments, -
When they had entered the city, they went upstairs to the upper room where they were staying [indefinitely]; that is, Peter, and John and [his brother] James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew (Nathanael) and Matthew,
“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
This man therefore had possessed himself of a field out of the reward of unrighteousness, - and falling headlong burst asunder in the midst, and forth gushed all his bowels;
And they appointed two, Joseph, who was called Barsabas, who had been surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
When the day of
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as it had been the coming of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they sat.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues, like as they had been fire, and it sat upon each of them:
