and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,

Well, you can recall now what it is that restrains him from being revealed before his appointed time.

For at the Coming of the Lord there will be great activity on the part of Satan, in the form of all kinds of deceptive miracles, signs, and marvels, as well as of wicked attempts to delude--

that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.

Well then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the rules which you have learned from us orally or by letter.

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and encouragement and the good [well-founded] hope [of salvation] by His grace,

Now we give you orders, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from all those whose behaviour is not well ordered and in harmony with the teaching which they had from us.

For you know well that you ought to follow our example. When we were with you, our life was not ill-ordered,

But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
