And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
Then a dispute developed among Jesus' disciples as to which one of them was the greatest.
And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
Then said John to Jesus, master, we saw one casting out demons in your name, and we oppos'd it, because he does not follow you with us.
And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
Now when the time was approaching for Him to be taken up [to heaven], He was determined to go to Jerusalem [to fulfill His purpose].
But Jesus turned and rebuked them,
And, while they were on their way, a man said to Jesus: "I will follow you wherever you go."
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jesus said to another, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
Then another person said [to Jesus], "Lord, I will become your follower, but first let me say goodbye to my family." [Note: There was the likelihood that family members might try to dissuade him from his commitment to follow the Lord].
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
And Jesus said to them, "I saw Satan falling from heaven as lightning.
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!
Just then an expert in the Law stood up to test Jesus. He asked, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus said to him,
But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now which, do you think, of these three men," asked Jesus, "proved himself a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?"
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Now while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was preoccupied with all the preparations [i.e., for entertaining her beloved guest] and came up to Jesus and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Ask her to help me."
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Once Jesus was praying in a certain place. After he had finished, one of his disciples told him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."
"When you pray," Jesus answered, "say--'Father, May thy named be held holy, thy Kingdom come.
And Jesus said to His disciples, "Suppose one of you who has a friend would go to him at midnight and say to him, ' [Please] lend me three loaves of bread,
And [at another time] Jesus was casting out a demon, and it was [controlling a man so as to make him] mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds were awed.
Others, wanting to test Jesus, kept asking him for a sign from heaven.
But Jesus, realizing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed, and a divided household falls.
As Jesus was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and told him, "How blessed is the womb that gave birth to you and the breasts that nursed you!"
But Jesus said, "Yes, but those who listen to God's message and obey it are [more] blessed."
Now as the crowds continued to throng around Jesus, he went on to say, "This people living today are an evil generation. It craves a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah,
The queen of the South [Note: This queen was from Sheba, which was probably in Arabia. See I Kings 10:1] will stand up on the judgment day, along with the people of this generation, and will condemn them because she came from a great distance to hear [and see] Solomon's wisdom [I Kings 10:1ff] and [now] Someone greater than Solomon is here [i.e., Jesus].
The people of Nineveh will stand up on the judgment day with the people of this generation and will condemn them because they repented [i.e., changed their hearts and lives] when hearing the preaching of Jonah [Jonah 3:5-10] and [now] Someone greater than Jonah is here [i.e., Jesus].
Now after Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee asked Him to have lunch with him. He went in [the Pharisee’s home] and reclined at the table [without ceremonially washing His hands].
The Pharisee noticed this and was surprised that Jesus did not first ceremonially wash before the meal.
Then one of the teachers of the law of Moses answered Jesus, saying, "Teacher, you insulted us too by saying this."
"Alas too for you expounders of the Law!" replied Jesus, "for you load men with cumbrous burdens which you yourselves will not touch with one of your fingers.
Therefore, the wisdom of God said, [Note: Is this a reference to Jesus? See I Cor. 1:30 and Matt. 23:34-36], 'I will send prophets and apostles to them [i.e., the Jewish people] and they will kill and persecute some of them,
As Jesus was leaving, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely, interrogating him about many things.
In the meantime, after so many thousands of the people had gathered that they were stepping on one another, Jesus began speaking first of all to His disciples,
Then someone out of the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the [family] inheritance with me."
But Jesus asked him, "Mister, who appointed me to be a judge or arbitrator over you people?"
Then Jesus told them this parable-- "There was once a rich man whose land was very fertile;
Jesus said to His disciples,
" [And], do not be afraid, little flock [Note: Jesus refers to His small band of disciples as sheep following Him as their Shepherd], for your Father was pleased to give you the kingdom.
Jesus answered, if there be a faithful prudent steward, appointed by his master to give his domesticks their stated allowance; happy is such a servant,
Then Jesus told the crowds, "When you see a cloud coming in from the west, you immediately say, "There's going to be a storm,' and that's what happens.

Jesus journeyed on through cities and villages, teaching and making His way toward Jerusalem.
"Master," some one asked, "are there but few in the path of Salvation?" And Jesus answered:
At that hour some Pharisees came and told Jesus, "Leave and get away from here, because Herod wants to kill you!"
But Jesus answered: "Go and say to that fox 'Look you, I am driving out demons and shall be completing cures to-day and to- morrow, and on the third day I shall have done.'
It happened one Sabbath, when He went for a meal at the house of one of the ruling Pharisees, that they were watching Him closely and carefully [hoping to entrap Him].
And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
But they remained silent. So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him away.
When Jesus noticed how the guests were choosing the places of honor, he told them a parable.
Jesus also went on to say to the one who had invited Him,
When one of those at the meal with Jesus heard this, he said to him, "Blessed is everyone who will feast in the kingdom of God!"
But Jesus said to him,
Now all the tax collectors and sinners [including non-observant Jews] were coming near Jesus to listen to Him.
Now Jesus was also saying to the disciples,
Now the Pharisees, who love money, had been listening to all this and began to ridicule Jesus.
But Jesus said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in men's eyes, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly prized among men is utterly detestable in God's sight.
Jesus said to His disciples,
"If your faith," answered Jesus, "were like a grain of mustard-seed, you would say to this tree, 'Tear yourself up and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.
While Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem, He was passing [along the border] between Samaria and Galilee.
And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
When Jesus saw them, he told them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." While they were going, they were made clean.

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
Then Jesus said to the one [who had returned], "Get up and go on your way. Your faith has made you well."
Once Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come. He answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with a visible display.
People will not be saying, 'Look, here [it is]!' or 'There [it is]!' For in fact, the kingdom of God is [now] among you [i.e., as represented by the presence and ministry of Jesus]."
Then Jesus told the disciples, "The time will come during which you will long to see one of these days when the Son of Man is with you, but you will not see it.
I tell you, on that night [i.e., when Jesus returns. See verse 30], there will be two men in one bed; one will be taken [i.e., to be with the Lord] while the other one will be left [i.e., to be punished by the Lord].
And they asked Jesus, "Where [will this happen], Lord?" And He answered them, "Wherever there is a [dead] body [you will see] vultures gathered there also."
Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart,
Jesus also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves, thinking they were righteous, but who looked down on everyone else:
Now some people were even bringing their infants to Jesus to have him touch them. But when the disciples saw this, they sternly told the people not to do that.
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Then an official asked Jesus, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
