Lift up your heads, O gates, and rise up, O ancient doorways, that the king of glory may enter.

Who is the king of glory? Yahweh of hosts, He [is] the king of glory! Selah

Lift up your heads, O gates, and rise up, O ancient doorways, that the king of glory may enter. Who [is] the king of glory? Yahweh, strong and mighty; Yahweh, mighty in war! Lift up your heads, O gates, and lift up, O ancient doorways, that the king of glory may enter. read more.

And they forced a certain man who was passing by, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), who was coming from the country, to carry his cross.

having destroyed the certificate of indebtedness in ordinances against us, which was hostile to us, and removed it out of the way [by] nailing it to the cross.

let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man stands before you healthy!

And [as they] were going out, they found a man of Cyrene {named} Simon. They forced this man to carry his cross.

And as they led him away, they seized Simon, a certain [man] of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, [and] placed the cross on him, to carry [it] behind Jesus.

Now we do speak wisdom among the mature, but wisdom not of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are perishing, but we speak the hidden wisdom of God in a mystery, which God predestined before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew. For if they had known [it], they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and {will take up residence with him}. The one who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me. These [things] I have spoken to you [while] residing with you. read more.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name--that one will teach you all [things], and will remind you of everything that I said to you. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you--not as the world gives, I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let [them] be afraid. You have heard that I said to you, 'I am going away, and I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I [am]. And now I have told you before [it] happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has {no power} {over} me.

But if indeed our gospel is veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And [when he] comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me, read more.
and concerning righteousness, because I am going away to the Father and you will see me no more, and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love and his wonderful deeds for [the] children of humankind, and let them exalt him in [the] congregation of [the] people, and praise him in [the] assembly of [the] elders. He turns rivers into a wilderness and springs of water into thirsty ground, read more.
a fruitful land into a salty place, because of the evil of its inhabitants. He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into springs of water. And he settles [the] hungry there, so that they may establish a city to inhabit, and sow fields and plant vineyards, {that they may yield fruit at harvest}. And he blesses them and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle become few. When they become few and they are bent down from [the] oppression of calamity and grief, [he] pours contempt on princes and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.

Jesus answered and said, "This voice has not happened for my sake, but [for] your sake. Now is the judgment of this world! Now the ruler of this world will be thrown out! And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all [people] to myself."

Who is the king of glory? Yahweh of hosts, He [is] the king of glory! Selah

But I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood is not able to inherit the kingdom of God, nor can corruption inherit incorruptibility. Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. read more.
For it is necessary [for] this perishable [body] to put on incorruptibility, and this mortal [body] to put on immortality. But whenever this perishable [body] puts on incorruptibility and this mortal [body] puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: "Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, [is] your victory? Where, O death, [is] your sting? Now the sting of death [is] sin, and the power of sin [is] the law. But thanks [be] to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

the mystery [which] has been hidden from the ages and from the generations, but has now been revealed to his saints, to whom God wanted to make known what [is] the glorious wealth of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,

On account of this I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles --if indeed you have heard [about] the stewardship of God's grace given to me for you. According to revelation the mystery was made known to me, just as I wrote beforehand in brief, read more.
so that you may be able when you read to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ (which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit): [that] the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, of which I became a servant, according to the gift of God's grace given to me, according to the working of his power. To me, the least of all the saints, was given this grace: to proclaim the good news of the fathomless riches of Christ to the Gentiles, and to enlighten everyone [as to] what [is] the administration of the mystery hidden from the ages by God, who created all [things],

But in the days of the sound of the seventh angel, whenever he is about to blow the trumpet, then the mystery of God is completed, as he announced to his own slaves the prophets."

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will confound." Where [is] the wise person? Where [is] the scribe? Where [is] the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? read more.
For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. For indeed, Jews ask for sign miracles and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a cause for stumbling, but to the Gentiles foolishness, but to those [who are] called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ [is] the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human [wisdom], and the weakness of God [is] stronger than human [strength]. For consider your calling, brothers, that not many [were] wise according to human standards, not many [were] powerful, not many [were] well born. But the foolish [things] of the world God chose in order that he might put to shame the wise, and the weak [things] of the world God chose in order that he might put to shame the strong, and the insignificant of the world, and the despised, God chose, the things that are not, in order that he might abolish the things that are,

And I, [when I] came to you, brothers, did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I decided not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I came to you in weakness and in fear and with much trembling, read more.
and my speech and my preaching [were] not with the persuasiveness of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and power, in order that your faith would not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

Only may Yahweh give to you understanding and insight that he might give you charge over Israel and the keeping of the law of Yahweh your God.

{And as for these four young men}, God gave to them knowledge and insight into all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had insight into all visions and dreams.

There is nothing better for a person than to eat and drink and {find delight} in his toil. For I also realized that this [is] from the hand of God! For who can eat [and drink], and who can enjoy [life] apart from him? For to the person who [is] good in his eyes, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and heaping up only to give [it] to [him who is] pleasing to him. This also [is] vanity and chasing wind!

Daniel {said}: "Let his name, [the name] of God, be blessed {throughout the ages}, for the wisdom and the power {are his}. And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to [men who] know understanding.

My child, if you will receive my sayings, and hide my commands with you, [in order] to incline your ear toward wisdom, [then] you shall apply your heart to understanding. For if you cry out for understanding, [if] you lift your voice for insight, read more.
if you seek her like silver and search her out {like treasure}, then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding. For the upright, he stores sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly, [in order] to guard paths of justice and keep the way of his faithful [ones]. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and uprightness--every good course-- for wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul. Discretion will watch over you; understanding will protect you, [in order] to deliver you from the way of evil, from a man who speaks devious things-- those who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in ways of darkness, those who are happy to do evil, [for] they delight in [the] deviousness of evil, {who are crooked in their ways}, and devious in their paths; [in order] to deliver you from a strange woman, from a foreign woman [who] flatters [with] her sayings, she who forsakes the partner of her youth and has forgotten the covenant of her God, for her house sinks to death, and to the dead are her paths. [Of] all who go to her, none shall return, nor do they reach paths of life. So that you will walk on the road of those who are good, and the paths of those who are righteous you shall keep. For those who are upright will dwell [in the] land, and those who are blameless will remain in it. And those who are wicked will be cut off from the land, and those who are treacherous will be uprooted from it.

Rise up, O Yahweh, confront {him}. Make him bow down. Rescue with your sword my life from [the] wicked, from men by your hand, O Yahweh, from men of [this] world.
