For his mouth of good sense, a man will be recommended, but he who is of perverse {mind} will be despised.

So I concluded that wisdom [is] better than might, yet the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard.

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to people. We [are] fools for the sake of Christ, but you [are] prudent in Christ! We [are] weak, but you [are] strong! You [are] honored, but we [are] dishonored!

Consequently, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them [are] twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Now [when he] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and [after he] sat down, his disciples approached him. And opening his mouth he began to teach them, saying, "Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. read more.
Blessed [are] the ones who mourn, because they will be comforted. Blessed [are] the meek, because they will inherit the earth. Blessed [are] the ones who hunger and thirst [for] righteousness, because they will be satisfied. Blessed [are] the merciful, because they will be shown mercy. Blessed [are] the pure in heart, because they will see God. Blessed [are] the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God. Blessed [are] those who are persecuted because of righteousness, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute [you] and say all kinds of evil things against you, lying on account of me. Rejoice and be glad, because your reward [is] great in heaven, for in the [same] way they persecuted the prophets before you. "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, by what will it be made salty? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown outside [and] trampled under foot by people. You are the light of the world. A city located on top of a hill cannot be hidden, nor do they light a lamp and place it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines on all those in the house. In the [same] way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

And [while] he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and brothers were standing there outside, desiring to speak to him. And someone told him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing there outside desiring to speak to you." But he answered [and] said to the one who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" read more.
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Behold my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father [who is] in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother."

And Jesus answered [and] said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal [this] to you, but my Father [who is] in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it!

And his mother and his brothers arrived, and standing outside, they sent [word] to him to summon him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers [are] outside looking for you." And he answered them [and] said, "Who is my mother or my brothers?" read more.
And looking around at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, "Behold, my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother."

He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.

He who pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.

Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic [is] your name in all the earth, who put your splendor above the heavens. From the mouth of children and infants you have founded strength on account of your enemies, to silence [the] enemy and [the] avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, [the] moon and [the] stars which you set in place-- read more.

For he will not be shaken forever; [the] righteous {will be remembered forever}. He is not afraid of bad news; his heart [is] steadfast, secure in Yahweh. His heart [is] sustained; he will not be afraid, until he looks [in triumph] on his enemies. read more.
{He gives lavishly} to the needy; his righteousness endures forever. His horn rises high in honor.

Already you are satiated! Already you are rich! Apart from us you reign as kings! And would that indeed you reigned as kings, in order that we also might reign as kings with you!

And [as] he was going out of the temple [courts], one of his disciples said to him, "Teacher, look! What great stones and what wonderful buildings!" And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not [one] stone will be left here on [another] stone that will not be thrown down!" And [as] he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, read more.
"Tell us, when will these [things] happen, and what [will be] the sign when all these [things] are about to be accomplished?" So Jesus began to say to them, "Watch out that no one deceives you! Many will come in my name, saying, 'I am [he],' and they will deceive many. And when you hear about wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must happen, but the end [is] not yet. For nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in [various] places. There will be famines. These [things] [are] the beginning of birth pains. "But you, watch out for yourselves! They will hand you over to councils and you will be beaten in the synagogues and will have to stand before governors and kings because of me, for a witness to them. And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations. And when they arrest you [and] hand you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you should say, but whatever is given to you at that hour, say this. For you are not the ones who are speaking, but the Holy Spirit. And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father [his] child, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. And you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end--this one will be saved.

"Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. But beware of people, because they will hand you over to councils, and they will flog you in their synagogues. And you will be brought before both governors and kings because of me, for a witness to them and to the Gentiles. read more.
But whenever they hand you over, do not be anxious how [to speak] or what you should say, for what you should say will be given to you at that hour. For you are not the ones who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father [who is] speaking through you. "And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father [his] children, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end--this one will be saved. And whenever they persecute you in this town, flee to another, for truly I say to you, you will never finish [going through] the towns of Israel until the Son of Man comes. "A disciple is not superior to his teacher, nor a slave superior to his master. [It is] enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household?

And [as] Jesus went out of the temple [courts] he was going along, and his disciples came up to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered [and] said to them, "Do you not see all these [things]? Truly I say to you, not [one] stone will be left here on [another] stone that will not be thrown down!" And Jesus answered [and] said to them, "Watch out that no one deceives you! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will deceive many. And you are going to hear about wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not alarmed, for this must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in [various] places. But all these [things] [are] the beginning of birth pains. "Then they will hand you over to persecution and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations because of my name. And then many will be led into sin and will betray one another and will hate one another,

And [while] some were speaking about the temple, that it was adorned with precious stones and votive offerings, he said, "[As for] these [things] that you see--days will come in which not [one] stone will be left on [another] stone that will not be thrown down!" And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, when therefore will these [things] happen, and what [will be] the sign when these [things] are about to take place?" read more.
And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am [he],' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them! And when you hear about wars and insurrections, do not be terrified, for these [things] must happen first, but the end [will] not [be] at once." Then he said to them, "nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes and famines and plagues in [various] places. There will be terrible sights and great signs from heaven. "But before all these [things], they will lay their hands on you and will persecute [you], handing [you] over to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will turn out to you for a [time of] witness. {Therefore make up your minds} not to prepare in advance to speak in your own defense, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom that all your opponents will not be able to resist or contradict. And you will be handed over even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put to death [some] of you. And you will be hated by all because of my name. Even a hair of your head will never perish! By your patient endurance you will gain your lives.

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch that does not bear fruit in me, he removes it, and every [branch] that bears fruit, he prunes it in order that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. read more.
Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither [can] you, unless you remain in me. "I am the vine; you [are] the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him--this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw [them] into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit, and prove to be my disciples. "Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have spoken these [things] to you in order that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be made complete. This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and your fruit should remain, in order that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. These [things] I command you: that you love one another. If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before [it hated] you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this [reason] the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

"I have said these [things] to you so that you will not fall away. {They will expel you from the synagogue}, but an hour is coming that everyone who kills you will think they are offering service to God. And they will do these [things] because they do not know the Father or me. read more.
But I have said these [things] to you so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you about them.

since you are demanding proof that Christ, who [is] not weak toward you, but is powerful among you, is speaking in me. For indeed, he was crucified because of weakness, but he lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live together with him because of the power of God toward you. Test yourselves [to see] if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ [is] in you, unless you are unqualified?

I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known the [One who is] from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have conquered the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you have known the [One who is] from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.

Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would depart from me. And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, because the power is perfected in weakness." Therefore rather I will boast most gladly in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in calamities, in persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. {Resist him}, steadfast in your faith, [because you] know the same [kinds] of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, [after you] have suffered for a short time, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, [and] establish [you].

In the heart of him who has understanding, wisdom rests, but [even] in the midst of fools it becomes known.

Even a fool who keeps silent {shall be considered wise}; he who closes his lips [is] intelligent.
