even because of the extraordinary degree of the revelations. Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, in order that it would torment me so that I would not exalt myself.
And I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening, and I did in the morning {just as} I was commanded.
Until the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty and poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless,
in beatings, in prisons, in disturbances, in troubles, in sleepless nights, in going hungry,
Are they servants of Christ?--I am speaking as though I were beside myself--I [am] more so, with far greater labors, with far more imprisonments, with beatings to a much greater degree, in [danger of] death many times.
[so that] no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For [you] yourselves know that we are appointed for this,

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? [Will] affliction or distress or persecution or hunger or lack of sufficient clothing or danger or the sword? Just as it is written, "On account of you we are being put to death the whole day [long]; we are considered as sheep for slaughter." [No], but in all these [things] we prevail completely through the one who loved us.
