Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to rule. He ruled for sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jerushah, daughter of Zadok.

He did what Jehovah considered right, as his father Uzziah had done. Unlike his father, he did not illegally enter Jehovah's Temple. The people continued their corrupt ways.

He built cities in the hills of Judah. He also built forts and towers in the wooded areas.

He fought with the king of the Ammonites and conquered them. That year the Ammonites gave him seven thousand and five hundred pounds of silver, sixty thousand bushels of wheat, and sixty thousand bushels of barley. The Ammonites gave him the same amount for two more years.

Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to live the way Jehovah his God wanted.

Jotham lay down in death with his ancestors. They buried him in the City of David. His son Ahaz succeeded him as king.
