Book Summary

This book tells us about Christ coming with His angels – this is the second part of the same event which is known as the day of the Lord. While Christ tarries there is still much to do but having this expectation propels you to do rather than to sleep. In His second coming He will appear to the whole world. The world has not seen Jesus since His crucifixion and resurrection but soon will come back. Jesus’ ascension was essential because it meant that the gift of the person of the Spirit could be poured out.

Before Christ’s return there seems to be much unbelief in the world as Luke says “when the Son of Man comes , will he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) Perhaps the church will be in a luke warm mode having been infected by the world, the word tells us that in the last days men will be lovers of themselves and not of God.

To combat this falling away Paul warns us to not let go of the foundational truth but hold onto it – “stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught whether by world or our epistle.” (2 Thessalonians 2:15)

Despite the living in expectation of His return we still need to take care of the practical things of life – for “if a man will not work , he shall not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10), by doing this we are honoring God.
