For a fire has been kindled by my anger, and it burns to lowest Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and ignites the foundations of the mountains.

"I have come to bring fire on the earth -- and how I wish it were already kindled!

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire; he is a jealous God.

If an alarm sounds in a city, do people not fear? If disaster overtakes a city, is the Lord not responsible?

The Lord said, "I appointed prophets as watchmen to warn you, saying: 'Pay attention to the warning sound of the trumpet!'" But they said, "We will not pay attention!"

If, for example, the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will get ready for battle?

In excitement and impatience it consumes the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet is blown. At the sound of the trumpet, it says, 'Aha!' And from a distance it catches the scent of battle, the thunderous shouting of commanders, and the battle cries.

You must not say, 'No, we will not stay. Instead we will go and live in the land of Egypt where we will not face war, or hear the enemy's trumpet calls, or starve for lack of food.'
