But when he dishonoured Israel, Jonathan, the son of Shimea, David's brother slew him. These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his slaves.


And there was intense war against the Philistines all the days of Saul, and when Saul saw any strong man or any valiant man, he took him unto him.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own place.


For he went forth and warred against the Philistines and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod and built cities about Ashdod and among the Philistines. And God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal and against the Mehunims.
