Jerusalem » Destruction of, foretold by jesus
"Just as it was in Noah's time, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying, and being given in marriage right up to the day when Noah went into the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed all of them. So it was in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. read more.
But on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed all of them. The day when the Son of Man is revealed will be like that. "The person who is on the housetop that day must not come down to get his belongings out of his house. The person in the field, too, must not turn back to what's left behind. Remember Lot's wife! Whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it. I tell you, two will be seated on the same couch that night. The one will be taken, and the other will be left behind. Two women will be grinding grain together. The one will be taken, and the other will be left behind." Then they asked him, "Where, Lord, will this take place?" He told them, "Wherever there's a corpse, there the vultures will gather."
"So when you see the destructive desecration, mentioned by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place (let the reader take note),
When he came closer and saw the city, he began to grieve over it: "If you had only known today what could have brought you peace! But now it is hidden from your sight, because the days will come when your enemies will build walls around you, surround you, and close you in on every side. read more.
They will level you to the ground you and those who live within your city limits. They will not leave one stone on another within your walls, because you didn't recognize the time when you were visited."
"When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then understand that its devastation is approaching. Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in the countryside must not go into it, because these are the days of vengeance when all that is written will be fulfilled. read more.
"How terrible it will be for those women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days! because there will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be carried off as captives among all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the unbelievers until the times of the unbelievers are fulfilled."
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones to death those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! Look! Your house is left abandoned!
"So when you see the destructive desecration standing where it should not be (let the reader take note), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. The one who's on his housetop must not come down and go into his house to take anything out of it, and the one who's in the field must not turn back to get his coat. read more.
"How terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days! Pray that it may not be in winter, because those days will be a time of suffering, a kind that has not happened from the beginning of God's creation until now, and certainly will never happen again. If the Lord had not shortened those days, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days. "At that time, if anyone says to you, "Look! Here is the Messiah!', or, "Look! There he is!' don't believe it, because false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce signs and omens to deceive, if possible, the elect. So be on your guard! I've told you everything before it happens."
Look! Your house is left vacant to you. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, "How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"
