Jehovah told Moses: Put these laws in writing, as part of my agreement (covenant) with Israel. Moses was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread or drink water. When I went up on the mountain to get the stone tablets, the tablets of the promise that Jehovah made to you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights without food or water.
